The Tavern Group Kicks off the Fall Season with 5 Locations & Oktoberfest Celebrations

PRESS RELEASE

Ottawa, ON - September 12, 2024 – Since Tavern on The Hill opened in Major’s Hill Park in 2016, The Tavern Group has grown to include five iconic locations and redefined the Ottawa patio experience. With some of the most spectacular views of the Nation’s Capital, The Taverns have become must-visit destinations for locals and visitors alike. Portable heaters and cozy blankets  provide warmth for guests to enjoy delectable food and signature cocktails on late summer days and evenings.

Oktoberfest celebrations scheduled  for September 21st & 22nd at Tavern at the Gallery and September 28th & 29th at Tavern at the Falls provide more excellent reasons to include a Tavern visit on end-of-summer to-do lists. German-inspired food, biers and live music by the seven-piece Bavarian-style polka band, the Polka Brats, is on the menu. The concept, a nod to owner/ operator Andre Schad’s German heritage, has proved popular in Ottawa. Last year’s Oktoberfest at Tavern at The Gallery sold out so reservations are encouraged.

The man behind the Tavern Group, Andre Schad, is a prominent local entrepreneur whose ownership of retail stores and restaurants in Ottawa’s thriving Byward Market spans over 30 years. Schad’s Byward Market businesses over the years include Schadillac Ranch (clothing boutique), Schadillac Saloon, Schad Boutique and Rag Trade located at the old Ritchie Feed and Seed on York Street during the late 1980s. The Tavern concept which he developed in partnership with The National Capital Commission, is the embodiment of his commitment to the area and his passion for innovative concepts that add to Ottawa’s vibrancy and inspire pride of place for residents.

Tavern Group’s  five iconic locations include:

TAVERN ON THE ISLAND - Bate Island (Ottawa River Parkway)

The newest addition to The Tavern Group family, Tavern on the Island, is located on Bate Island. Offering a much-needed stop along the river for cyclists, walkers and sunset watchers, this location features light fare, refreshing cocktails, wine, and beer. With multiple river access points, patio guests are welcome to stop by in their kayak or canoe or get out on the river with a tube rental and guided tour. View both the downtown skyline and the river while observing the aquatic wildlife that call Bate Island home. It really is the ideal spot to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area.

TAVERN ON THE HILL - 1223 Alexandra Bridge

Originally opened in 2017 and recently reopened after a two year closure in a new location adjacent to the new pedestrian bridge in the historic Header House in Major's Hill Park, Tavern on the Hill offers guests an unparalleled view of the Parliament Buildings, the Ottawa River, and nearby landmarks such as the Supreme Court and the Alexandra Bridge. Guests can indulge in a curated selection of craft cocktails, beer, and wine, complemented by their famous gourmet hot dogs. Live music on select evenings adds to the ambiance, making it the perfect spot to enjoy Ottawa’s scenic beauty.

TAVERN AT THE GALLERY - 380 Sussex Drive

Nestled in the serene courtyard garden of the National Gallery of Canada, Tavern at the Gallery offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Engulfed with shady trees, this full-service location features handcrafted cocktails, beer, wine, and a delicious menu that includes handmade pizza, charcuterie boards and desserts. The serene setting, combined with live entertainment, provides an ideal spot for a relaxing afternoon or evening.

TAVERN ON THE FALLS - 1 John Street

Located beside the Royal Canadian Geographic Society on Sussex Drive, Tavern on the Falls is one of Ottawa’s most popular summer destinations. With an extensive drinks menu that includes unique cocktails like the Kimchi Caesar, this patio offers a vibrant atmosphere complete with comfortable seating, twinkling lights, fire pits, and heaters. The stunning views of the twin waterfalls where the Ottawa River meets the Rideau River make this a perfect spot for a summer outing.

TAVERN AT THE LAKE - 100 Leamy Lake Pkwy, Gatineau

Tavern at the Lake is a licensed beachside canteen offering hot-dogs, burgers, sandwiches, ice cream, beer, wine, and hot and cold beverages.
