Sweet Support for The Snowsuit Fund in OttawaTim Hortons Smile Cookie Week Returns April 28 - May 4

Ottawa, April 23, 2025 – Recently, Tim Hortons Owners, Snowsuit Fund board members, and community supporters gathered at a Tim Hortons in Nepean to officially kick off the return of the Ottawa Smile Cookie Campaign taking place April 28-May 4th. Once again, all proceeds from the sale of specially decorated, delicious chocolate chunk cookies will directly support the purchase of brand-new, high-quality snowsuits for underprivileged children in our community.

A growing number of families in Ottawa have come to depend on The Snowsuit Fund, which last year distributed over 19,000 snowsuits to 8,000 families, a marked increase from the previous annual need of 17,000. Thanks to Ottawa Tim Hortons Owners and customers, cookie sales last year generated enough to keep over 6,600 local children warm. The Smile Cookie campaign provides vital early-season funds, which are used to purchase snowsuits year-round, to stock the Vanier depot in preparation for seasonal distribution starting in September.

“We’re incredibly thankful to the Ottawa Tim Hortons owners for once again donating all proceeds to The Snowsuit Fund. Our work relies on the generous support from events like this as well as our amazing community partners and all the individuals and organizations who purchase these delicious cookies,” said The Snowsuit Fund Board Vice Chair, Mike Leggett.

Smile Cookies offer a simple yet impactful way to show gratitude and foster goodwill across the community, and they can be preordered in batches of 25 at snowsuitfund.com for scheduled delivery during Smile Cookie Week. Each purchase of 25 cookies funds one brand-new snowsuit. Delivery to one or multiple addresses at no charge is made possible by The Snowsuit Fund’s Official Delivery Partner, Trexity.

Local organizations have already preordered thousands. Ottawa Police will be handing out Smile Cookies and spreading hope and joy in the city’s most vulnerable communities. And, the iconic treats will be shared in staff lunchrooms, during client meetings, at board meetings, and as part of tenant appreciation gestures by community-minded businesses such as:

The Snowsuit Fund provides 19,000 snowsuits each year to Ottawa children aged 15 and under from low-income families. For many, winter clothing is an unaffordable luxury, with essentials like food and utilities taking precedence. A warm snowsuit isn’t just protection from the cold—it’s a gateway to outdoor play, better health, confidence, and inclusion. Entirely community-driven and volunteer-powered, The Snowsuit Fund receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of individuals and groups to keep kids warm.

The first-ever Smile Cookie campaign in 1996 raised funds to support Hamilton Children's Hospital. Since then, the annual charitable campaign has raised a total of more than $130 million for charities and community groups that are selected every year by Tim Hortons restaurant owners. Last year, Smile Cookie raised $19.8 million, supporting over 600 charities and community groups across Canada and in the United States. Recipients include local hospitals, community care organizations, food banks and schools.
