and thousands of children kept warm

Ottawa, May 27, 2025 – Today, Tim Hortons restaurant owners in Ottawa presented The Snowsuit Fund with a cheque for $338,000, raised through its annual Smile Cookie campaign. This year’s donation is enough to purchase close to 6,800 snowsuits and marks a new record for the Ottawa region.  The cheque was officially presented at The Snowsuit Fund’s depot, highlighting a long-standing partnership dedicated to keeping local children warm during the coldest months.

The Snowsuit Fund has been a grateful beneficiary of the Smile Cookie campaign since 2004. Proceeds from the popular and sweet initiative help to provide thousands of new snowsuits to children in need across Ottawa. The campaign is the Snowsuit Fund’s first and largest fundraiser of the season, and this year’s community support has once again surpassed expectations.

“Every year, the Smile Cookie campaign does more than raise funds - it inspires our community, engages new supporters, and fuels our mission. You’ve helped turn cookies into snowsuits, and your efforts wrap our city's children in warmth, dignity, and care,” said The Snowsuit Fund Board Chair, Martin Masse.

“Here in Ottawa, we’re especially proud to support The Snowsuit Fund - a relationship we’ve cherished since 2004,” said Bill Houldsworth, an Ottawa Tim Hortons restaurant owner. “It’s inspiring to see how something as simple as a cookie can rally a community together to make a real, tangible difference.”

To commemorate over two decades of support, the event featured a vibrant mural painted on-site at the depot by Ottawa artist Robbie Lariviere from Fall Down Gallery. The mural stands as a heartfelt thank you to Tim Hortons and its network of local restaurant owners, team members, and customers who have supported the campaign year after year.

Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign raised a record-breaking $22.6 million this year, supporting over 600 charities and community groups across North America.

The Snowsuit Fund provides 19,000 snowsuits yearly to Ottawa children aged 15 and under from low-income families. For many, winter clothing is an unaffordable luxury, with essentials like food and utilities taking precedence. A warm snowsuit isn’t just protection from the cold—it’s a gateway to outdoor play, better health, confidence, and inclusion. Entirely community-driven and volunteer-powered, the Snowsuit Fund receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of individuals and groups to keep kids warm.

The first-ever Smile Cookie campaign in 1996 raised funds to support Hamilton Children's Hospital. Since then, the annual charitable campaign has raised a total of more than $130 million for charities and community groups that are selected every year by Tim Hortons restaurant owners. Last year, Smile Cookie raised $19.8 million, supporting over 600 charities and community groups across Canada and in the United States. Recipients include local hospitals, community care organizations, food banks and schools.
