Perley Health Hosts Groundbreaking for Canada’s FirstDementia Friendly Designed Intergenerational Child Care Centre

Perley Health, in partnership with Andrew Fleck Children’s Services (AFCS), is breaking ground on its new Intergenerational Child Care Centre, the first of its kind in Canada. The centre will bring together Seniors, Veterans, and children in a purpose-built environment designed to foster connection, dignity, and joy across generations. Children, parents, Seniors, and Veterans who have taken part in Perley Health’s intergenerational programs will be on hand to share their experiences.

Why:
Set to open in mid-2026. Intergenerational Child Care Centre will serve 49 children of Perley Health staff and the broader community. At its heart is the AFCS “Grand Friends” program, which connects children and Seniors through play, art, and music. Supported by the Perley Health Foundation’s Bridging Generations campaign (goal: $2M), the project will serve as a model of innovation for long-term care communities nationwide.
